Don Swanson has shared his communication insights with a broad range of business, government, higher education, and media organizations in domestic and international settings, specializing in executive coaching. Dr. Swanson has also conducted numerous workshops on topics such as speaking with confidence, managing uncertainty in organizations, meeting the media, teambuilding, and conflict management.
Professor Swanson chairs the Department of Communication and directs the masters program in Corporate and Public Communication at Monmouth University in New Jersey. Author of numerous papers, a former journal editor, and intercollegiate debate coach, Dr. Swanson previously served as a Dean at the University of Guam. He has taught trial advocacy in the Law School and managerial communication in the Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Williamette University in Oregon. He holds an interdisciplinary doctorate in Communication Training and Conflict Management.
An avid observer of political campaigns, Dr. Swanson has served as a format consultant and moderator of political debates, and as a media analyst. During several election cycles, he served as a communication advisor to U.S. Congressional campaigns. His interest in public radio resulted in producing and hosting interview programs and a business series entitled “The Quality Forum.” He was recently the chair of the training and development division of the National Communication Association and chair of the Applied Communication division of the Eastern Communication Association.
